I have occasionally questioned why I’m doing this but only fleetingly. and 28 years since qualifying as a doctor I’m still enjoying it with no plans to stop just yet.

Since qualifying I haven’t thought about quitting yet. As a Student Nurse, every time I was tired or run down, I would have the emotional “I want to quit” day but then I would pick myself up the following day and get on with it. I knew I wanted to be a nurse and there was no other way so I had to stick at it.

Not yet, although there have been difficult days. Patient complaints are always upsetting to deal with as it’s hard not to take them personally.

No, I can honestly say that I have never encountered a patient or situation that has made me feel so bad that I wanted to quit. I always try and remember that the patients do not want to be ill and so try very hard not to take things personal when they are taking their frustrations etc out on me.
