That patients understood the pressures on GP Practices and realise that we have to support thousands of patients and not just them.

I wish there were more of us (Practice Nurses). It would relieve pressures and give me more time with my patients

I’d like to be able to spend more time with a patient without feeling the pressure of patients waiting outside to be seen. At the moment GPs generally have 10 minute appointments for patients and see upwards of 30-40 patients a day face to face then numerous others to contact by telephone in between. The workload is intense which means it can make you feel rushed to move onto the next one.

Encouraging more doctors to enter General Practice will help this in the future and perversely, having time to spend with patients at the outset could save time down the line by preventing or catching illness early and treating it fully, especially chronic illness and mental health problems.
